It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Friday night, I stayed up until 1am.

The reason?

Lesson plans.

I had succeeded in completing my plans early the previous weekend, and I had really enjoyed having the rest of the weekend off, so I forced myself to repeat the routine.

I am so glad I did, for I woke up to this…

20130414-000911.jpg

The Mr. and I headed out early to attend a pancake breakfast…a fundraiser for a local traveling basketball team.

Then we ran to Office Depot for a couple of boxes of glue sticks for a project my classes will be working on.

Before we headed home, we stopped at Kohl’s, one of my favorite stores, where I picked up this pair of shoes…

20130414-001155.jpg

The Mr. also bought me a blouse that had caught my eye.

We made it home for lunch, and then I left again…this time for an afternoon of pampering.

I had spent some time on Pinterest…planning the next method of torture for my nail tech. She’s not fond of the designs I beg her to add each time I visit her.

She left after filling in my nails, and another girl painted them.,,

Does they look Spring/Summery to you?

Of course, I had to get my feet done too…

I was so relaxed.

I didn’t think much about work. In fact, I didn’t think much about anything but simply let my brain zone out.

I feel rejuvenated.

It was definitely a beautiful day in the neighborhood!

A Birthday Celebration

Today I turn 43.

Happy Birthday to me!

I started celebrating a little early…as in yesterday.

I’d carefully planned out my week, working many, many hours so that I could enjoy the rest of my week.

Every year, about this time, I make an hour and a half trek to a yarn store that has been one of my favorites over the years.  The night before, I texted my friend, Maegan, to see if she wanted to join me.  She did, and I picked her up around 11.

Maegan and I work together, but we don’t get to talk for long periods of time because we are too busy teaching our students.  She won our school’s Teacher of the Year…a testament to how fabulous she is.  The kids and staff adore her.  Spending quality time away from school and the stresses of life was something I knew I’d treasure.

Off we went!

She took a couple of pictures as we crossed the bridge.  As you can see, the weather was PERFECT!

Our first stop was the yarn store…actually the FIRST of the day (we saw the other one I used to visit on the way and made plans to stop on our way back).

Maegan was probably the most patient non-knitting person I’ve ever gone yarn shopping with.  She was mesmerized by the samples that had been worked up.  She pet the various skeins of yarn and listened patiently as I explained things like marrying the right yarns and patterns together.

What a friend!

I took full advantage of the 20% birthday coupon that I had received in the mail and left with these in my bag…

Malabrigo Lace in Indigo

A girl can never have too much Malabrigo!  I see this becoming a shawl…one day.

This is a sock yarn I’ve never heard of.  When I touched it, I could not stop.  It begged to come home with me.  I hate to let a yarn’s cries go untended.

😀

The yarn store is in the cutest little tourist area, fraught with adorable shops.

We visited a cupcake bakery that was uber-homey inside…

Alas…I inquired about vegan cupcakes, and the gal responded in the negative.  Oh well.  I guess I saved myself a few calories.

We also stepped into a pet supply store that has unique home-baked furry baby treats.  I didn’t take any photos.  I didn’t buy a thing either!  Go me!

Another shop that caught Maegan’s attention was a vintage clothing store.

The place had a funky smell, but we still had a good time holding up “interesting” items.

I found myself a dress to wear on Monday nights when I watch Dancing With the Stars

No, I didn’t really buy it, but the thought did cross my mind!

Next up was a trip to Goodwill.

Yes, that’s right.

Goodwill.

Maegan had almost had heart failure when she’d seen one on the way to the yarn store.  At first, I was a little worried…until she told me that she LOVES to shop at Goodwill and had not been to the one we’d just passed.  I had promised that we’d go back, so we did.

Confession time.

Although I’ve donated things to Goodwill, I’ve never actually shopped there.

Oh word, but Maegan was in her element, and she quickly brought me up to speed on the ins and outs of shopping there.

We found a beautiful white prom dress and considered buying it just in case one of our students couldn’t afford the cost.  In the end, we decided not to because the dress was a little too sheer, and we didn’t think any of our girls would actually wear it.

After shopping awhile, we left without buying anything.

It was time to find the other yarn store, where I purchased the following yarn…

This is a cotton blend, and there was a sample of the Chincoteague Shawl knit up with a different colorway.  It’s a beautiful shawl, and the yarn stripes out beautifully as well.  I can’t wait to cast on!

After spending nearly an hour in the shop, we headed in the direction of home…or should I say in the direction of a second Goodwill store…one in which the owner of the second yarn store had assured us was a much better Goodwill to shop at.

Oh word.

Was.

It.

Ever.

It certainly didn’t take me long to catch on to Goodwill shopping!

As we shopped, I couldn’t believe that we actually needed a buggy!

Maegan taught me how to look at the shoes and determine if they’d been worn much.

We had fun trying on shoes.  She actually had to help me figure out how to strap on one pair…

Yes, I am THAT girl…still so awkward at times.

The shoes were a great fit and oh so pretty!

I found another cute pair as well.  Both pairs will look great under jeans or dress pants.

Another thing I discovered at Goodwill…

The kids love the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson, and my friend, Barb, said that Rules of Attraction is one of the most sought-after books at school.  I bought the Nicholas Sparks book just because it was the first book that made me cry when I read it years ago.

I’ll admit that the “savings” added up, and I wound up spending a bit more than I’d anticipated.  Oh well.  Sometimes you just can’t put a price on the value of reading!

Next on our to-do list was a stop at Ulta.  We both had coupons we’d received in the mail, and we were eager to spend save a buck!  I wound up buying four bottles of Ulta Shampoo/Conditioner, which actually works great on my hair and was on sale for buy one, get one half off.

By the time I arrived home, I was happy and a little tired.  It took a second trip to the car to bring in everything…

What a wonderful way to kick off my birthday weekend.  Spending time with Maegan rejuvenated me.  We bounced teaching ideas off of one another, gave each other validation, and grew closer as friends.

I adore this young woman and am so blessed that I could share my birthday-eve with her.

Please say a prayer for my Chicklets.  They are on their way home, spending my birthday weekend/Easter with us and bringing with them a few friends.

The house will be filled with lots of laughter and fun, and I cannot wait.

Could you also say a prayer for Aubie.  She’s had a bad couple of days.  We’re very nervous.  Her health condition is the one sad spot right now.

Thanks all!

Sole Pampering

No, I haven’t flubbed the title of today’s post.

The reason?

Because Chicky came home last night to spend part of her Spring Break with us, and we decided to visit the mall at the beach.

First of all, this mall is home to my favorite pizza at Red Brick Pizza.  Yum!

Second, I’d heard, through the grapevine, that Dillard’s was having an AMAZING shoe sale.

Dillard’s just happens to be at this mall.

Chicky also needed a dress for a wedding she’ll be attending in a couple of weeks.

Although I am not fond of shopping, I do love my shoes and was thrilled to find the following pairs, in my size, on the clearance racks…

This is a pair of Gianni Bini.  They were originally $90 but had been marked down to $32.  After an additional 40% discount, taken at the register, I got them for $19!

They’ve even got sparkles!

The other pair I found are a bit more practical but the color I’ve been looking for ever since a different pair of the same color broke.  I have a certain pair of dress pants that are a strange color…kind of deep purple-ish/brown-ish.  Buying these shoes was a necessity to be able to wear my pants again!

The price point on this pair was the same as the other pair.

Meanwhile, Chicky got a pair of boots that were NOT on sale.

The Mr. paid for those.

We all agree that I got the best deal, but Chicky is thrilled with her pair.

We’re just happy to have her home and more than willing to splurge a bit on her.

Of course, I’m more than okay with splurging on myself as well.

😉

A Blingy Kind of Day

I stayed up until 3am grading assignments on Edmodo, working on my first Reading Endorsement 4 assignment, and then reading the stuff for next week’s assignment.

Once I got on a roll, I couldn’t stop!

I slept until 11:45 though, so that was good.

My friend, Barb, and I had tentatively made plans to visit a holiday shopping fundraiser thing that our local Junior Women’s League puts on each year.

Barb called me and told me that her lunch plans had fallen through, so we were a go.

I quickly got ready, and she picked me up.

We had to drive over the bridge to the beach, and what a beautiful view we had!!

The shindig is always held in a hotel’s ballroom, and it is fancy, with lots of vendors selling their wares to anyone willing (and even those unwilling) to spend a dime or two.

Despite our brave declarations of not spending much, it didn’t take long for us to cave.

By the second stall, we were in deep.

Oh my, but the bling was simply too much to resist!

We tried on more jewelry than I can even remember.

Everything from rings to bracelets found their way into our willing hands.

There were soooo many things I liked.

The first bracelets I bought were remade to fit my tiny wrists…

The owner of the business was the cutest girl I think I’ve ever met.  She’s the mom of two very young children.  We discovered that she’s able to make her jewelry when her babies are napping.  Kudos to small business owners like her!!

Another stall that drew my attention also had bling…the kind you put on t-shirts.

I found one I liked, but the size was too large.

No worries!  She had a small, and while I shopped, she added the sparkles…

This is a long-sleeved shirt that I will be wearing at next week’s game!!

Barb and I continued to shop.

I picked up this darling scarf…

We made out way round the room one more time…partially to pick up the shirt that was being made for me but also to make sure that nothing had escaped our attention.

We found the following keyrings…blingy of course…at another stall…

One could argue that those are Georgia colors.  We prefer to say they are our high school colors.

Needless to say, I bought it.

Even my keys will be sparkly.

😀

We continued shopping.

We stopped at yet another booth…one we’d visited and played at earlier but had escaped from, unscathed.

Apparently, we’d missed an entire table.

Darn.

We explored.

That’s where I found the following, which I HAD to have…

I know the picture is a little blurry.  It’ s a little difficult to take a picture when you’re giddy with excitement over the bling you’ve just purchased.

😀

I fell in love with the bracelet for several reasons.  First of all, it fit.  LOL.  Second of all, it’s a little stretchy which helps with the fit.  Third, though, was the unique clasp (yes, it has one despite the stretchy band)…

Isn’t that the cutest thing ever?????

I had also fallen in love with the stretch rings the gal was selling.

I wanted something that matched, and when she pulled out the ring that was in the same collection as the bracelet, I was completely and utterly in love…

You can’t tell from my picture, but the setting around the stones and the stones themselves are a pinkish/orangish color and match the bracelet perfectly!

Yes.

I made both items mine.

They will be worn a lot…especially with that blinged up shirt I bought for the game.

😀

We finally had to call it a day.

I had not really noticed, but the crowd had thinned.

That’s because it was almost time for the event to shut down.

We had spent about four hours shopping.

I had not seen the time fly.

We ended our evening by eating onion rings at the little restaurant/bar inside the hotel…watching Texas A&M beat Alabama at the same time.

What a fine ending to the day.

😀

As we left the beach, the lights from the condos twinkled through the dark…

I’d originally planned to work all day.

If you could see my kitchen counters, you’d see that I have more to do than time to do it in.

Instead, I played.

It was a much needed day of play.

Barb needed the day as well.  She’s a very hard worker and hardly ever sits down.  She’s constantly looking after the reading teachers, taking care of our kids (errant and not) so that we can help our babies reach their potential.

We laughed so much today.

That’s important for me.  I don’t have a lot of friends and tend to take myself way too seriously.

I guess you could say that between the bling and the friendship, I am one very happy gal.

As I begin my evening of work, desperately trying to finish the grading I haven’t had time to do in a while, I’ll catch flashes of brilliance as the lamp shines on the bling, and I’ll smile, remembering the wonderful day I had.

Good Shoes Come to Those Who Wait…

…for the prices to drop, that is.

Take, for instance, two shopping trips I went on this weekend.

Kohl’s had sent me a $10 coupon…that I could use off of anything.

Naturally, I headed to the shoe department first.  I found a pair of boots I liked.  They were on the clearance shelf, marked at 80% off.

The Mr. poo-pooed the idea saying, “We only have a week of winter in Florida.”

Whatever.

We walked around the store so I could look at clothes and jewelry, but nothing really struck my fancy, so I left with my coupon in my back pocket.

Well, let me tell you…I WANTED those boots, so I went back after church on Sunday to buy them.

I was shocked to discover a new clearance sticker on the box…

90% off!!!

Conveniently enough, there was another shoe box beside the one I’d been looking at…

HEELS!!!

On sale for 90% off as well!!!!!

Hello, Lord, I know you speak to your people and all, and, well, this was one time I really didn’t mind heeding your instructions.

heehee

I walked out of Kohl’s after spending $1.59.

What a deal!

I’m so glad the Mr. told me not to buy those boots.

I’m even happier that I did my usual thing, ignored him, and went back to get them anyhow.

😉

A Girl’s Just Gotta Shop Sometimes!

Super Sis sent me a Kohl’s gift card for my birthday, so I waited until today, when a coupon I’d gotten in the mail went into effect, before heading out.

I figured that it was the least I could do for myself after working all afternoon on Saturday and turning in a Reading Endorsement assignment after church.

I shopped and shopped and shopped…tried on quite a few things…before settling on these…

Oh, how comfy!!  I love that they’re like sandals but a bit dressed up with the wedge…

What a fun way to show off my newly pedicured toes!

Thanks to the coupon and sales going on, I was going to have a few dollars left over.

Well, I couldn’t just let them sit on that gift card, now could I?

I indulged in a little bit of bling…

I love the “rope” that the pendant hangs from.  This is DEFINITELY my style!

I found a matching pair of earrings that I simply could not pass up…

I was drawn to these pieces because they match one of the blouses I bought the last time I shopped at Kohl’s, and I know they will match some other things I have in my closet.

Besides that, with the 40% off sales plus the 20% coupon, it would have been a crime NOT to buy these!!

heehee

Thanks, Super Sis, for a practical and thoughtful gift!!  I had a lot of fun and will think of you every time I wear one of the items I purchased.

Work First, Play Later

That was my motto for my Spring Break.

I was determined to get my lesson plans and classroom ready early in the week so I could relax the rest of it.

Turns out that I was a little slow on my feet the first couple of days.  I don’t exactly remember what I did those days, but I think it involved working out in the gym (more details forthcoming in a future post) and reading (I’ve already blogged about the new books I recently purchased).

Tuesday evening, I hunkered down on my couch and got busy with some lesson planning.

As a good reader, I’ve taken my ability to read to granted.  Now that I teach intensive reading, I have to think critically about what I do, exactly, when I read and comprehend.  Hence, the lesson planning is slow going for me, breaking down the steps into understandable bits for my students to process.

I hit a wall and put away my plans.  Wednesday, I got up, and God zapped me with a great site on the internet and good ideas.  Thank you, Lord!!  I went into my classroom for about an hour or so, talked to a few of the other teachers who were also there, and got the low-down on how to use the new technology that had finished being installed while I was gone.

Then, I went to lunch with the gals.  It was impromptu and fun.

I worked hard on finishing up things that evening and went back into my classroom on Thursday morning, spending a solid four hours straightening my room, setting up my stations, practicing with my new technology, and brainstorming with a fellow teacher who had stopped by.  I took a few things home with me to finalize and worked hard that afternoon.

Thus it was on Friday (yesterday) when I was able, finally, to play.

First, I stopped by my classroom and dropped off what I’d finished the night before.  I didn’t hang around long, afraid to get sucked into the world of work.  I’d promised myself that I wouldn’t and that what had not gotten done wasn’t going to.  Sometimes you just can’t do everything.

Then, I headed out for some fun.

First, my nails.

As you know, I’m very eager for the movie, The Hunger Games, to come out.  I read all three books in the series.  The reading teachers are taking our students to see it on the 27th.  I’m giving serious thought to attending the opening night.  Yes.  I know that’s midnight, but that’s part of the fun.  Barb has suggested that I take a half-day of vacation.  We shall see.  I’ll probably just suck it up and nap during my planning.  😉

In honor of the movie, I walked into my nail salon with a plan and a couple of pictures.

After being told that no, she could not draw a bird (ahem…it’s a mockingjay…sheesh), I settled for Plan B…

Those are flames.  She did her best…refusing to do the red that was in the picture I’d printed out.  Although a couple of the nails on my right hand messed up a teensy bit when I left, I’m pleased with the overall result…

After lunch, I headed to the beach.  I had a coupon for the store, Ulta, and my friend Jane had agreed to meet me there.  You might remember that Jane and I taught together last year.  She says that I left her when I took the job at the public school.  I’d offer the suggestion that she didn’t follow me.

Semantics.

She had never been to Ulta, so it was my pleasure to introduce her to this fun, girly store.

Jane is 61 (or is it 62), but you’d never know it from talking to her.  She’s incredibly young at heart and pushes herself to the highest standards in everything she does.  She’s got such a wonderful sense of humor, so we laugh CONSTANTLY when we’re together.

She’s the person I took with me when I won free tickets to the Christian Concert last August, and it was so funny to watch her jumping around to the music…even commenting on how cute the guitar player was (for the record, he was butt ugly and looked about 90.  She needed her eyes checked.  heehee).

Anyhoo, though Jane and I are friends, there are times when she feels like a mother to me.  She has a daughter close to my age, and according to her, the daughter and I are very similar.  I just love having this friend/mother figure in my life, so today was especially fun as we shopped and discussed nail polishes (she refuses to go wild, unlike me with my crazy nails).  We ate lunch at Panera and talked the entire time.  Then, we returned to Ulta because I’d forgotten something.  She had to buy a little something for the road.  Parting from her is always bittersweet.  Though we talk weekly, we only get to see each other every few weeks.  Life is NUTS for both of us.

By the time I got home, it was 4:30.  As soon as the Mr. got home from the gym, he asked, “Who wants to go to Kohl’s?”

Um, hello?  That was on my to-do list but I was so busy that I hadn’t gotten to it.

I had been carrying around 20% coupons all day!  He informed me that I needed to check my email for a $10 off of a $10 or more purchase coupon.  I finally found it…in my spam folder!

Off to Kohl’s we went, expecting to be back home shortly.

Two hours later, we finally returned, with me sporting a few new things…

Those are shoes designed by Jennifer Lopez.

In case you’ve had your head in the sand and have not been watching TV much lately, J. Lo is the new spokesperson for Kohl’s.

As I had walked around shopping, I realized that I had not hit the shoe department.  The Mr. was actually shocked when he’d gone looking for me fully expecting that to be the FIRST place I visited.

heehee

Anyhoo, I spied the black heels first and had to try them on…

Let me tell you…though the heels are high, the bottom is thick, so it doesn’t feel like your feet are arched very much.  I have no idea what kind of leather they used, but it is COMFORTABLE!  Trust me.  I have much experience with these things.

The shoes are very well made.  The heels actually mold around your heels, so there’s none of that foot-coming-out-of-the-shoe thing.

I love these and knew I was going to buy them as soon as I walked around in them.  I didn’t care how much they cost.  For the record, they were roughly $31, down from $75, and I had a 20% coupon.

The second pair only cost $21, and I love them almost as much as the black pair.

They have some sort of suede-like covering…definitely not your smooth leather.  I love how thick the soles are, which makes walking in them much easier than you’d think.

Please excuse my white legs.  Apparently, working and Spring Break do not add up to much time to tan.  I’ll try to fix that in the next couple of days.

Anyhoo…

I tried on lots of other things at Kohl’s and came home with a couple of new tops for work…

That’s not the best picture.  It doesn’t show off each top to its best.  I love both of them!  The black one is a similar style to a few others I have, but it’s just so doggone pretty!  I love, love, love the pink one.  It’s made out of some sort of rayon or something, and it is just so “blousy.”  It’s thin…perfect for hot Florida weather, but it’s very dressy.

One thing that’s really caught me off guard this year is how observant students are.  They notice EVERYTHING (except for due dates written in all UPPERCASE red Expo markers on the whiteboard).  When I wear something they’ve never seen, they comment.  They have their favorite outfits, and they don’t hesitate to tell me.  So, finding new things to wear to work is fun because I know that they will appreciate my effort to be professional, stylish, and a bit whimsical.

My day of fun ended with a dinner to a local Japanese restaurant where I had Miso Soup and cucumber and asparagus rolls.  Yum!

Work is going to slap me in the face next week.  I think I’ll take the next day or two to relax, recharge my batteries fully, and count my blessings.

One thing I was reminded of as I talked to Jane today was how different my life is this year compared to last year.  Last year at this time, I was a very hurt and angry gal.  I felt betrayed by people I had trusted, and I had some major regrouping to do.  It was during this time last year that I knew that I wouldn’t be returning to that school…that the fit just didn’t fit any more.  I knew that God had other plans for me.

He was true to the nudging I felt in my heart and here I am…in a place where I fit in completely…content and as thankful as I can be.

Shoe Therapy

I love shoes.

Anyone who knows me knows this.

I’m cheap, though, and I will wear the heck out of my shoes, refusing to throw them out just because styles change.

It should not have surprised me when I encountered a little problem after school a few days ago…

I had known that the shoes were on their way out.

The clue?

When I was driving and thought I had gum on the bottom of my shoes.  You see, they kept sticking to the pedals.  Turns out that the bottoms had split in half across the soles.

Still, I managed to get a few more days out of them.

Well, upon having them come completely apart, I set them aside.

It was time to go shoe shopping.

Unfortunately, Kohl’s didn’t have much to offer.  Dang.  I even had a 15% coupon.

Today, the Mr. and I headed to Dillards.

I needed a pair of shoes.  It’s getting cold down here in Florida, and I have soccer games to attend.

I tried on four or five pairs of shoes before settling on a pair…

Yes, that’s the German brand.

Are you jealous yet?

Slides…very important to me so I can show off my knitted socks.

It’s going to be sad when I select my attire based on these shoes matching everything, eh?

My feet are happy.

The bank account is not.

The shoes were pricey.

Hopefully, it will be years before they succumb to the fate of the other pair…

Shopping Lessons for Chicky

Chicky will be returning to college later this week.

I.

Am.

Not.

Thrilled.

However, with this being her second year, I think it won’t be as much of a shock to my system.

As any mother of a college student knows, the week before a child returns to school is busy!  There are clothes to buy, dorm room stuff to pack, and a myriad of other things to do.

Today, Chicky and I headed out to do a bit of shopping.

First, we visited CVS, where I taught her how to save money using her Extra Care Bucks Card…

Of course, we also had coupons in our hands.

First, though, I explained that every time she walks into a CVS store, she needs to scan her card at the kiosk, usually located near the front…

This is very important!  The scanner spits coupons out the side.

However, as I explained to Chicky, you can scan your card TWICE each day (during the same visit).  You get different coupons each time!  The coupons that spit out are different each week and sometimes you even get unexpected surprises, such as Extra Care Bucks…

Extra Care Bucks (ECBs) are MONEY in CVS language, so don’t ever throw them out!!

The coupons that printed out for us today included $3 off of a $10 cosmetics purchase.

Since Chicky has her own card (she’s such a big girl), she got her own set of coupons.  One of her coupons was $.50 off of Crest Whitestrips, which she had planned on purchasing!

She had things she wanted to buy, with her own money, (once again being such a big girl), so I let her shop.

Now, let me remind you to never, ever buy anything at CVS without using your card.  You get special prices this way.

For instance, Chicky bought her Whitestrips (using a $5 manufacturer coupon plus the $.50 store coupon that printed from the kiosk and which you can stack since one was a store coupon and one was a mfr coupon) and got a $10 ECB at the bottom of her receipt.  She turned around and used this to purchase other items that she didn’t have coupons for.

Oh, and that $3 cosmetics coupon?  She bought a $9.xx item, along with a travel size package of q-tips to bump her to $10, and saved $3!!

She was on a roll today!

I didn’t do too badly on my purchase either.

Next, we headed to the mall at the beach to our favorite store, Ann Taylor Loft.

I’ll admit that I’ve done so much shopping lately that nothing really jumped out at me, but because I had been given a heads-up about a 30% coupon for Facebook Fans, Chicky tried on quite a few things.  She wound up getting three tops, saving quite a pile of money because they were on the clearance rack, with an additional 30% off BEFORE she used the coupon!!

I have a funny story to share.

Chicky had run into the store before me because I had to go potty in the bookstore down the street.  By the time I got to the Loft, she was already trying on clothes, and she came out of the room with a pair of pants that I (looking guilty now) had purchased for myself last week…off of the clearance rack…for an additional 50% off of the clearance price.

She needed a smaller size, but there weren’t any available.

I had purchased the only smaller size last week.

Oops.

heehee

She came home, though, and ordered it online, using the code provided on the coupon, and got the deal anyway.

Next, we ventured into Victoria’s Secret.  Chicky had a coupon for free undies/$10 off of a bra.

My girl wound up saving $18 and walked away with two very nice items, only spending $20 in the end!

I am so proud of her!  She’s catching on, though she admits that it’s a bit of work.

On the way home, we stopped at Starbucks for a treat.

I saved money there too, using a discount card and, thus, saving 10% off of our treats.

I remembered that I needed to run by Publix before certain sales were over.  I purchased 64oz Gatorade (B1G1), Excedrin (2/$2.50 – $1 manufacture coupons on each), and Mueller’s Pasta (B1G1 – $1 coupons on each).  I walked out of there spending $7…saving at least 66%.

When we got home, we took a look at our purchases…

We had done quite well.

I am hoping that Chicky takes these lessons to heart and looks for good deals while she’s at school.

Though she won’t have much time to shop, she’ll certainly stretch her money when she does.

Plus, it’s never too early to learn!

More Great Deals

I was a busy girl today and found myself at the mall on the beach.

Of course, I had to visit my new favorite store… Ann Taylor Loft…where I found this pair of capri-style, grey pinstriped dress pants…

These pants were originally $54.50.  They had been marked down to $14.88; however, the store currently has selected items marked down for an additional 50%, so I wound up walking out of there after spending only $8!!!  These are very well-made pants and fit me like a glove.  They are going to look great with a white shirt and either heels or flats, depending on my mood.  The bonus is that they are uber-professional!

While I was paying for the pants, one of the store’s clerks told me about the teacher discount that is available.

Say what?

Visit the Loft’s web site and look for “Teacher” at the bottom of the home page…

Register yourself and then print the 15% page.  It’s something you’ll want to keep in your wallet so you’ll have it every time you stop in.  However, you can only use the discount on regularly-priced items.  That’s the only down side because the clothes are not cheap.  Still, if you get in a pinch and need a go-to outfit and can’t wait for a sale, it’s nice to be able to save some money.

Next, I headed to Borders which, as you know, is liquidating its assets.  Supposedly, there are great sales.

I beg to differ.

Most of the books are only marked down 10%.

Folks, I can do the same using my discount card at Books a Million.

However, I did notice that the magazines are marked down 40%.

It probably won’t surprise you to see what I got…

There are selected items that are marked down 20%; however, I wasn’t interested.  I’m going to bide my time and wait for the store to get desperate enough to mark things down even more.

I can’t tell you how important it is to get out there and shop regularly.  That’s when you discover treasures for cheap!
