This Hodgepodge is full of questions that hint at the onset of autumn. Play along by visiting Joyce’s blog and linking up after you answer the questions on your own blog.
1. Do you like chili? Red or white? Beans or no beans? Spice or no spice? Toppings?
Oh, I LOVE chili. I’ll eat it with either red or white beans, but it must have spice. I like chili that bites! As far as toppings, I don’t do any now that I’m a vegan. I used to top it off with cheese. Oh wait, I do still like onions on top. BTW, the book, The Daniel Fast, has an excellent chili recipe. In fact, I haven’t discovered any bad recipes in this book!

2. Red-Orang-Gold…your favorite fall color?
I’m going to go with orange, as in orange and blue…as in Auburn Football, which should be the universal symbol for autumn!!
3. Who did you idolize when you were growing up?
I read The Hiding Place when I was a youngster and several times when I was in my teens. Corrie ten Boom was the epitome of a servant of God in difficult times. I would love to be of service to others in such an incredible way.
After I meet Jesus in heaven, I want to meet Corrie. What a humble woman. She made the most out every situation…found silver linings, or should I say God’s blessings and provisions in the most horrific settings. Though she died quite a number of years ago, I remain in awe of her grace and fortitude.
4. When was the last time you did something “arts and craftsy?” Share please.
Knitting…oh my…just give me needles, yarn, and free time, and I’ll crank out things like this…

And this…

And this…

BTW, that’s me in the pictures.
I’ve currently got two projects on the needles. I’m usually a monogamous knitter, but after I had started one project, the need for something special came up, so I cast on the second project.
5. What’s a place that makes you really nervous?
Um…the principal’s office? Even though I’m a teacher now, I still get nervous. I had a chat with my principal a few days ago…about an issue I was having with a student…and my heart was racing! I was a nervous wreck! I don’t know where this nervousness comes from. I never got in trouble at school when I was a child. I guess it’s the whole respect-for-authority thing.
6. Horseback riding…yay or nay (neigh?)?
I really want to say yay. I love these amazing animals. However, their sheet size and power scare me. I went bareback riding with a friend when I was a teenager, and I almost fell off. Ever since then, I’ve been a bit intimidated by horses.
7. What is your favorite cliche?
Bloom where you are planted.
What? Never heard of it? This cliche comes from my former English teacher, Ms. Warr, whom I blogged about here. She passed away last December, but I think of her almost weekly as I teach and use the valuable lessons she imparted to me.
8. My Random Thought
Why do kids wear their pants below their butts? Seriously. I’ve got students who do this, and I wonder how comfortable can they really be sitting in their desks and walking around like that. It’s disgusting, to say the least, and really does not make a fashion statement.
I’d really rather that they walk around dressed like Urkel…
