Wednesday Hodgepodge – Let’s Sing!

Joyce has music on her mind this week!  Hop on over after you post your own answers, link up, and visit others to see how they answered the questions.

1.  Share a favorite song lyric.

Ohhh…not a deep question but one that is difficult to narrow down!!!

Hmmm…one of my favorite songs has always been Amazing Grace, so when Chris Tomlin came out with his version, titled Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone), I was in love.  The words are so powerful because they speak of a Christian’s release from the penalty of sin because of Christ’s death and resurrection.

My favorite lyric from this song is this…

My chains are gone
I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace

Here’s the link to the video, if you haven’t seen it.  I cry with gratefulness almost every time I listen to this song.

2.  When was the last time someone yelled at you?

Yesterday.  I have teenagers.  Need I say more?

3.  Money, fame, happiness…are they mutually exclusive?

I’m going to admit that I did not know what this phrase meant, so I googled and learned that “mutually exclusive” means that things cannot exist at the same time.

With that definition in mind, I will have to say that no, I don’t believe that the above things are mutually exclusive.  I do think it’s possible to have money, be famous, and be happy.  It’s a matter of prioritizing.  I know there are Christians who are wealthy, famous, and have happy lives.  Why?  I suspect it’s because they put God first.  True happiness comes from putting God first, then family, and everything else after.

4.  What is your favorite dish to prepare for family and friends that doesn’t require turning on the stove, oven, or an outdoor grill?

Is this even possible, Joyce?  Of course, you are an extraordinary cook, so you probably know of something.

Oh wait…I just thought of the Strawberry Bottom Cheesecake Pie.  I found the recipe years ago on the label of a pie crust I was buying for Thanksgiving.  It is one of my family’s favorites!

5.  The first week of August is National Simplify Your Life Week.  What is one thing you could do this week to simplify your week?  Will you do it?

Well, I could win the lottery and then have enough money to hire a maid.  That would certainly simplify my life!!  Will I do it?  It’s all according to if my numbers go up those little chutes on Saturday night!

teeheehee

6.  On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being 100% and 1 being not at all), how tuned in are you to your country’s national political scene?

I would have to say I’m at a 5.  I hate politics.  I refuse to watch all of those political shows.  They make me gag.  Seriously.

I think what’s been going lately with the debt ceiling issue is appalling.  I am ready for the next presidential election.  Let’s just say that I’m going to be all about “change.”  😉

7.  What are your final parting words to the month of July?

It was nice knowing ‘ya, with all of the adventures (I’m thinking of my Alaskan cruise) I had.  See you next year!

8.  My Random Thought

I am so glad that The Bachelorette is over.  I think that this season did me in and made me decide not to watch in the future.  Besides the fact that I did not care for Ashley (no offense if she’s reading this…yeah, right), all of the drama was just too much.  I’ve also found that I just don’t have the stomach for watching people’s hearts get broken this way.  I am getting really aggravated that the media makes so much money off of situations like this.  Grrr…

  1. I said the same to my daughter about The Bachelorette this season…it may have just ended it for me.

I almost used the Chris Tomlin song too : ) That is my favorite version of Amazing Grace and normally I don’t like to see the classics changed too much but his additional lyrics make the song even better.

We’re all about change here next time round too!

  2. I didnt watch the Bachlorette this season either (Not an Ashley fan myself) – but I did watch the finale just to see what happened. Not knowing what happened any this season, it BROKE my heart to see the one guy get rejected. I thought, “How is this entertainment?” … it gave me new insight not watching it this season.

  3. A lot of great song lyrics and recipes today. The pie looks wonderful for a hot day like we’re all having.

  4. what a wonderful song Amen our chains are gone come see me at http://shopannies.blogspot.com and see what I shared

  5. I love Tomlin’s lyrics, too. What a songwriting gift he is to the world. The pie looks yummers. And your line about “no offense to Ashely if she’s reading this…yeah, right” cracked me up . Always get a laugh here. 🙂

  6. I like your #3 and 6.
Oh and Chris Tomlin, live him.

  7. I am glad you admitted you didn’t know what mutually exclusive means.
I didn’t admit it, but I asked my hubby.
Still not sure if I got my answer right.

Chris Tomlin is an amazing artist.

I love cheesecake, shouldn’t eat it with diabetes..but I love it.

  8. That strawberry bottom cheesecake sounds yummy. I imagine that yelling happens almost everyday with teens in the house! I remember it well.

  9. 1. Awesome song!
    3. Don’t tell anyone: I had to google it, too! 😀
    4. YUUUUUUMMMM!
    6. I’m right there with you. It disgusts me.

  10. I love that song! A guy in our church sings it so we get to hear at church and on the radio. The pie looks scrumptious. I understand the yelling…I’ve got teenagers too.

  11. That strawberry pie looks delicious! I might need to make that 🙂
