Random Thoughts

Even though Linda is taking a hiatus from the Random Dozen meme, I thought I would post a few random thoughts of my own.  There are some musings that I left out of my graduation post as well as other miscellaneous thoughts I’ve been pondering lately.

  1. I am not much on ceremonies.  Call it burnout.  I don’t know.  I just wonder what kind of eternal significance these things have.  However, that said, I will say that I was pleasantly surprised when I actually enjoyed Senior Recognition (the three-and-a-half hour awards ceremony in the previously fish-filled gym) and, of course, Graduation.  Besides seeing my own Chicky’s accomplishments out on public display, I also was surprised at the amount of joy that surged in my heart for the students I have come to know especially well during my last two years’ of subbing.  As I heard their names called during graduation, I cheered.
  2. A neat thing that I observed during graduation was how groups of people in the stands would cheer when their special students’ names were called.  It was almost like watching the wave start sporadically.  Of course, my crew of 14 cheered the loudest of any group when Chicky’s name was called.
  3. Two sad moments during graduation were when two students were awarded their diplomas posthumously.  One had died in a car accident a couple of years ago, and the other succumbed to ovarian cancer (very rare in one so young) in April.  The entire senior class stood up and applauded when her family walked across the stage to accept the diploma in her honor, and when they walked around the football field, large portrait of her held up in the air for all to see, I’m sure there wasn’t a dry eye in the venue.  This put my afternoon pity party into perspective.
  4. I’m sad that Lost, 24, and Dancing With the Stars are over.  However, So You Think You Can Dance kicked off last week, and Big Brother starts July 8th.  I sure hope it’s not smutty (BB, that is).  I’ll be mad if I have to turn it off.
  5. The next season of Dancing With the Stars starts September 20th.  Yeah.  I lead a pathetic life, eh?
  6. I started a new project last week, and I’m halfway done.  I’d probably be 3/4 finished if it wasn’t for a little game called Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook.
  7. Thanks to the game mentioned in #6, I now understand why people love Vegas (which I did not totally enjoy, except for the yarn stores and soccer when we went two years ago).  The lights, the gems exploding, the desire to up my score.  One word – ADDICTING.  The consequence – my knitting is suffering.
  8. Sprint’s new HTC Evo phone is available for purchase tomorrow (the 4th).  The Chicky household pre-ordered four of them.  We’ve been promised that the order will ship on the 4th.  I can’t wait for them to get here!
  9. I interviewed for another job last week, but I found out yesterday that I did not get it.  I got good feedback from the administrator who conducted the interview.  I’m still trusting God.
  10. We have two and a half days of school left.  June 8th cannot get here quick enough.
  11. I discovered what may be the beginning of cellulite on my thighs.  My treadmill is seeing action again.  I vow to put in three miles a day (or as often as I can).  I may not win the battle, but I’m going to give it a valiant effort.
  12. I haven’t had soda since May 20th.  #11 is the motivator.

  1. I hate when Big Brother gets too smutty… yuck! Just have fun people – you DONT HAVE to have a “hook up” in the house – not required!!!

A date for DWTS – I can now start a countdown for it! 🙂

GOOD FOR YOU on no more soda! That’s impressive. As much as I’m addicted to games, I’m just addicted to Diet Coke & cant break the habit… ugh!

  2. Oh yeah…totally forgot about the fishy situation. So, did it smell or not? I’m guessing not, otherwise I think you would’ve let us know!
How sad about the 2 classmates. I would’ve bawled buckets!
I missed Big Bother ( as we call it at my house!) last year…when they brought Jessie back, I couldn’t bear to watch! (That was last year, wasn’t it? )
Heck, I’m just excited about getting a new phone…any phone. I’ve had mine for at least 4 years…last update I got one and let Oldest son have it. How can they go through phones so fast?
Not getting one with all the bells & whistles; maybe after all the boys leave and I don’t have to pay for their phones anymore!
