Why?
Because it still amazes me to see how God provides.
Last week, I was talking to a few other subs. One made a comment about how difficult it has been to find subbing jobs.
I breathed a prayer of thanksgiving, because I have been subbing almost every day since the beginning of January.
My subbing jobs have been, for the most part, longer-term assignments. In fact, I’ve been subbing for a teacher for the last week and a half while she mourns the recent loss of her mother.
She will be returning next week, and I didn’t have any jobs scheduled.
Until today.
While working in the library during 11th grade FCAT testing, I got called to the principal’s office.
Can I tell you that my legs started shaking. I pretty much ran all the way there, knees knocking together. What a sight I must have been. The last time I was summoned to her office, I found out I was being laid off from the Attendance Desk (you might remember that post last Spring).
Is it any wonder I was nervous?
When I got to her office, her secretary assured me that Mrs. H. wanted to talk to me about another long-term subbing assignment.
Woo Hoo!
It is for an English teacher’s classroom. As you know, I am certified in this subject area.
Double Woo Hoo!
And, I have a subbing job to cover the next week too, in addition to a couple of weeks in May.
I just know that the Lord is going to fill in the days in-between.
And so I smiled.
Sure, I’m barely paying my bills, but we’re managing.
And it’s all due to God’s generosity.
Think about one way you were blessed today.
Then smile.

As you may know, if you comment on a blog, you may get a comment on your blog!
Thanks for your comment on the Harlot’s blog about my sweater (wish you could have seen my cool socks). I had to wear my favorite knitting in the presence of Stephanie! I’m sure you understand. It’s the “Must Have Cardi”, a Patons design. You can find it on Ravelry, I’m sure. I had to make some changes because I’m too big for the biggest size. So I made it in bulky and larger needles. My gauge made it a “medium”. It worked out perfect!
So, your comment made me smile. Well, that, and that, and that my carrot made it on the blog. Thank you!
Congratulations on your new assignment.
God may close a door, but he opens a window! (Okay, that’s a loose translation!) He does provide! And, hopefully all of these long-term subbing assignments will lead to a full time position!
I am confident you will get a full-time teaching job in the future because schools only hire the BEST subs for the long-term openings, and no doubt the teachers, themselves, have requested to have you in those positions. Since you have had so many long-term subbing jobs lately, it is only a matter of time before some district adds you to its full-time staff. Be patient; it WILL happen.
Isn’t God just awesome that way?! We’ve been living off a single income for several years now… which allowed me to run a Christian newspaper for three years (enough money to pay the help and publish… NOT enough money to pay me!)… and I’ve been able to be home with Michael, whom we adopted 3 1/2 years ago! They told my husband around 2 years ago that ALL overtime would be cut… and we were nervous, but really felt that God would provide, and that ever month he had several hours of OT on his check! And it has continued to be available even to this day, which has allowed me to go back to school! I KNOW that God hears our prayers and takes care of our needs!
And Nancy is correct… I sub some, and school always ask those they know do the best job to do the long term assignments… be prepared… God just may open that door wide enough for you to work full time!!!!!
