Folks, what you’re looking at is my cup.
It’s full of the most delicious stuff ever…
Sweet, iced tea.
Now, y’all know that I grew up in L.A…Lower Alabama to you Northern folks.
Home of Sweet Tea.
I’ve been making it all of my married life, but I have never been a huge fan.
Until yesterday.
When I came home with two holes in my mouth.
The literature suggested drinking decaffeinated tea to help with the healing.
And you know me…usually obedient.
It’s cool enough in the house that I can drink it without adding ice (of course, it’s coming straight from the fridge, but my insulated cup keeps it cool).
Oh my, but the first timid sip I took last night was HEAVENLY!!!
The cup in the picture above holds 24oz of yummy stuff.
Today, I took a cup full to school (yes, I went even with two new holes in my mouth). I had my pain medication doing its thing, and my antibiotic is working hard too. I was set.
Until 10am.
When I ran out of sweet deliciousness.
A problem.
You see, I was trying to figure out what to do about lunch. I’m not a big eater, but there was something about being “denied” the right to eat (i.e. not being able to open my mouth and chew) that made me WANT to eat even more. I guess this is the battle that people fight when they go on a diet?
Anyhoo, I didn’t have much time…not enough to run by the restaurant that was whipping up a roasted tomato soup they assured me would go down with very minimal chewing and run by home to pick up more tea.
The restaurant does not sell decaffeinated tea, and I can’t have the caffeine because it can mess with the blood clots that are trying to stay put in the now-empty tooth sockets.
Honestly, I wanted to cry. Perhaps it was me being emo (that’s teenage slang for emotional) because of the Prednisone I’m taking for swelling in my mouth.
Regardless, I did what I needed to do.
I texted Chicky and asked her to visit my classroom to get the cup so she could refill it for me when she went to lunch.
Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
She got a good chuckle out of it but willingly obliged because she because she didn’t want to see me get more emo because I couldn’t have my tea.
I gave her a hug, in front of my Freshmen class, when she returned with a full cup of tea. Good girl! I sipped on it the rest of the day.
When I got home from work, I refilled my glass.
And realized that we were almost out of tea.
Time to brew up some more!

Hello. My name is AuburnChick, and I’m addicted to Sweet, Iced Tea.
I guess there could be worse things, eh?

I’d love to try your sweet iced tea. Would you mind sharing how you make it?
Oh, I’d love to share! This is the way I learned to make tea when I was growing up.
I fill a dutch oven (pretty much the biggest pot I own) with cold water and set it on the stove to boil. Meanwhile, I add sugar to taste. We’ve found that we like our tea sweet, so one cup works well.
After the water begins to boil, remove it from the heat and put in two family-size tea bags (you could use four smaller-sized bags). Cover the pot with a lid and steep. I let it steep for 10-12 minutes.
Remove the tea bags and put into a pitcher after it cools.
That’s it! Sooooo simple and really good. The tea sweetens up more after it sits in the refrigerator a few days.
I make mine in the coffee pot!!
Ok…so share how you do this! I have a Mr. Coffee Tea Maker, but I’ve gone through two pitchers (they fit underneath the contraption), so I decided to do it the old fashioned way. But, I do have the new coffee pot that the Mr. bought (remember my post about that). I’d love to read your instructions!!
Thanks! I’ll give it a go. Is there a specific tea you like best?
I’ve always used Lipton. I don’t know why…probably because that’s what I’ve always had coupons for!
Being a Southern Girl… I too love my sweet tea… but trying to get used to unsweet tea…. oh, but the heaven of sweet tea! Does the McDonalds down there have sweet tea? That’s the BEST sweet tea up here!
Hope you’re mouth is feeling better today!
I would venture to bet that yes, my McD’s does carry sweet tea. I mean, I am in the Heart of the South! But my concern is the caffeine. I can’t do it because of the risk of messing up the blood clots in my toothless holes. Plus, the caffeine is bad stuff. But I have heard WONDERFUL things about McD’s tea. Might just have to inquire…especially after Dustina chimed in with how wonderful it is!
I used to make sweet tea all the time, then we moved. The water even though it comes through a spring has to go through a softener so we can wash clothes and us…and the softener makes the water taste like the ocean. So I haven’t been able to make a good pot since we moved.
McD’s does have a good sweet tea we used to get that a lot too when we lived in town, but now we gotta drive 30 mins to the nearest one lol…we are going through sweet tea with drawl… : )
So happy Chicky was near by and could get you some more tea…hope you continue to heal quickly! : )
