This week I’ve been subbing in a math teacher’s class. I know, I know. AuburnChick doesn’t do math.
I’m only giving tests; however, the questions that the students have been asking me required me to actually work some problems. Today, I gave Part B of a two-day test. What a doozie! I worked 1/2 of the test for myself in an attempt to understand how to better help the kids.
All we’re doing is adding and subtracting positive and negative integers. No big deal. Seriously. However, some of these students are having a really hard time understanding the concept. I’m a visual person, so I’ve been using the number line to demonstrate. For some kids, this has been the trick. For others, it hasn’t worked so well.
I guess math is one of those subjects that has to click in a person’s brain…no matter how simple it might seem to another person.
