A Pithy Hodgepodge

Another Wednesday is upon us, and you know what that means. It’s time for another round of Joyce’s thought-provoking questions.

I am always so thankful for those who take time to comment on my posts. Your words never fail to lift up my soul.

Now, on to the questions!

1. May 20th is World Bee Day…what’s something that’s kept you ‘busy as a bee’ lately?

Honestly, this is the slow time of the year for me. With college football season wayyyyy behind us, and two vacations out of the way, I’m in a holding pattern.

I was able to get my much-anticipated MRI yesterday morning. My surgeon put dye in my shoulder to make for better images.

After he pulled the needle out, he told me he thinks my rotator cuff is torn since he encountered no resistance. I’ll find out the results Friday. I am hoping I didn’t tear my labrum too.

I am prepared, though, thanks to the shoulder surgery I had on the other arm back in December 😜. I just bought two pairs of short-sleeved, button down pajamas. Amazon for the win!

These are super comfortable and will be easy to get in and out of if I have to go through another shoulder surgery.

2. Do you like honey? What’s something you make or enjoy that calls for honey?

I do not like honey. I don’t mind putting it in things if other ingredients mask the taste of it, and it’s a key ingredient in my ginger-turmeric juice, but that’s the only thing I like about it.

3. “Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” Proverbs 16:24

What’s a proverb you love, or one that speaks to you or has helped you in some way?

The Bible is full of Proverbs, a whole book in fact, if that helps with your answer. The word proverb is defined as ‘a short pithy saying in general use, stating a general truth or piece of advice’

I landed on two verses that I especially love:

I think it’s okay to have a plan for your life, but ultimately, it is God’s plan that prevails.

The other verse I say to myself a lot (like every time I look in the mirror) is this . . .

I am thankful for every gray hair. Each one tells a story – sometimes happy and sometimes sad – but a story of a life redeemed by a gracious God and a loving Savior.

4. Tell us about a ‘sweet’ moment in your life recently that filled you with joy, gratitude, or peace.

Rooster has been at our house since Sunday. He’s working his way through Auburn’s MBA program. The business school was hosting series of events for these students, so Rooster used us as his hotel.

He brought me this, which his Missus made for me, with the help of sweet E . . .

Be still my heart! It was an unexpected gift that touched me so much!

5. When you were a child, what did you want to ‘be’ when you grew up? How close did you come to that?

I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. I’d watched Laura Ingalls Wilder study for her teaching exams and lead mischievous groups of children down paths of knowledge in that one-room schoolhouse of hers.

So I did the thing and taught for twelve and a half years – until I decided I was done.

I’m grateful for the wonderful educators I met during that tenure, and some of my students will forever own pieces of my heart.

I’m even more thankful that God opened up the door to another career – out of the classroom. 😉

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I mentioned that my boy arrived Sunday to spend a few days with us.

Well, my mama heart does its thing when my babies come to visit, and I pulled out the mixer and whipped up a batch of Vegan Chocolate Chunk Cookies.

I made a lot of chocolate chip cookies when my kids were still kids living under my roof.

I use a scale to weigh each ball of yumminess.

My non-vegan family and friends love these.

I smiled BIG every time I saw my boy grab one. Some things never change.

  1. Your cookies look so good! How nice to have your son home for a bit, and the little gift is a treasure. I’m glad you had the opportunity to be both in the classroom and out of it. My teacher daughter is home with her kids now and was ready for a break from the classroom. She enjoys being at home and I don’t know if she’ll go back to the classroom full time. There are options out of the classroom for her someday so we’ll see. Have a great day!

    • Tell her not to go back!!! Education is a hot mess right now. The amount of stress in the profession is incredibly unhealthy for anyone to deal with. This makes me so sad for the children who truly want an education and need positive role models in their lives.

  2. Eek! MRI’s are no fun at all. It sounds like you are well prepared. Those pyjamas look so comfy.
Ahh! I got my crown early, I started going grey when I was about 22 years old.
What a lovely gift! So precious. Handmade gifts are always the best.
    Yum to the cookies!

  3. No resistance on putting the needle in…. i’m dizzing thinking of it.

    Those PJ’s are so cute!!!!!

you dont like HONEY????? WHATTTT????? …. we go through so much honey in a month over here. On Yogurt, on pancakes – in tea. Give me alllllll that sweet nectar!

    • Yeah, I actually had two needles to deal with yesterday. The numbing one hurt so much worse than the second one. I tensed up pretty badly – to the point where the doctor had to tell me to relax. Lol.

  4. You seem so calm about possible having to have surgery! I would be a complete and utter mess!! I like your Proverbs verses and almost picked 16:9. Your sweet moment gift is so sweet and how fun to have your boy back under your roof.

    • Lol. I’m calm because I just went down this road with my other shoulder, so I know what to expect. I’m actually more stressed about my left shoulder because I still have a decent amount of pain with it and am nervous that there’s still something wrong with it. I’ll give it a year from surgery to revisit it if need be.

  5. I love that you wanted to be a teacher . . .and then became one!! My husband has messed up both shoulders and both knees. I have a feeling there will be surgeries in our future.

    • Bless his heart! I have learned not to wait too long with these injuries because they only get worse. I hope he’s able to find relief soon!

  6. I hope all is well with your shoulder, but glad you have such a peace and readiness if surgery is needed. And those pajamas are really cute and look comfortable. I almost mentioned the proverb about grey hair too – it’s one of my favorites and I prefer to call my hair SILVER because it is a crown after all! Hope you’re having a great week!

    • Hi there! Thank you for visiting my blog today. We have a gal who works in our office, and her hair is completely gray. We call her the silver fox because her hair is gorgeous!

  7. I hope Friday’s news about your shoulder is better than expected. Your new pyjamas do look nice and cosy and perfect for after surgery.

That’s a lovely unexpected gift to recieve, personalised gifts are the best.

Those cookies look delicious, making tasty treats for the family is my love language.

  8. I like to make food for my family too and it brings me a lot of joy!

Thank you for visiting today and taking the time to leave a comment!
