A Pithy Hodgepodge

Another Wednesday is upon us, and you know what that means. It’s time for another round of Joyce’s thought-provoking questions.

I am always so thankful for those who take time to comment on my posts. Your words never fail to lift up my soul.

Now, on to the questions!

1. May 20th is World Bee Day…what’s something that’s kept you ‘busy as a bee’ lately?

Honestly, this is the slow time of the year for me. With college football season wayyyyy behind us, and two vacations out of the way, I’m in a holding pattern.

I was able to get my much-anticipated MRI yesterday morning. My surgeon put dye in my shoulder to make for better images.

After he pulled the needle out, he told me he thinks my rotator cuff is torn since he encountered no resistance. I’ll find out the results Friday. I am hoping I didn’t tear my labrum too.

I am prepared, though, thanks to the shoulder surgery I had on the other arm back in December 😜. I just bought two pairs of short-sleeved, button down pajamas. Amazon for the win!

These are super comfortable and will be easy to get in and out of if I have to go through another shoulder surgery.

2. Do you like honey? What’s something you make or enjoy that calls for honey?

I do not like honey. I don’t mind putting it in things if other ingredients mask the taste of it, and it’s a key ingredient in my ginger-turmeric juice, but that’s the only thing I like about it.

3. “Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” Proverbs 16:24

What’s a proverb you love, or one that speaks to you or has helped you in some way?

The Bible is full of Proverbs, a whole book in fact, if that helps with your answer. The word proverb is defined as ‘a short pithy saying in general use, stating a general truth or piece of advice’

I landed on two verses that I especially love:

I think it’s okay to have a plan for your life, but ultimately, it is God’s plan that prevails.

The other verse I say to myself a lot (like every time I look in the mirror) is this . . .

I am thankful for every gray hair. Each one tells a story – sometimes happy and sometimes sad – but a story of a life redeemed by a gracious God and a loving Savior.

4. Tell us about a ‘sweet’ moment in your life recently that filled you with joy, gratitude, or peace.

Rooster has been at our house since Sunday. He’s working his way through Auburn’s MBA program. The business school was hosting series of events for these students, so Rooster used us as his hotel.

He brought me this, which his Missus made for me, with the help of sweet E . . .

Be still my heart! It was an unexpected gift that touched me so much!

5. When you were a child, what did you want to ‘be’ when you grew up? How close did you come to that?

I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. I’d watched Laura Ingalls Wilder study for her teaching exams and lead mischievous groups of children down paths of knowledge in that one-room schoolhouse of hers.

So I did the thing and taught for twelve and a half years – until I decided I was done.

I’m grateful for the wonderful educators I met during that tenure, and some of my students will forever own pieces of my heart.

I’m even more thankful that God opened up the door to another career – out of the classroom. 😉

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I mentioned that my boy arrived Sunday to spend a few days with us.

Well, my mama heart does its thing when my babies come to visit, and I pulled out the mixer and whipped up a batch of Vegan Chocolate Chunk Cookies.

I made a lot of chocolate chip cookies when my kids were still kids living under my roof.

I use a scale to weigh each ball of yumminess.

My non-vegan family and friends love these.

I smiled BIG every time I saw my boy grab one. Some things never change.
