Does anyone remember the old ad campaign about drugs…

This is your brain on drugs…

Yeah, well, lest you think that AuburnChick is doing drugs, think again (unless Mt. Dew can be considered a drug, in which I am guilty as all get-out).
That said, I have to admit that I don’t need a CT scan to tell me that my brain is fried.
I just finished marking up my first set of papers…rough drafts that my Seniors turned in today…and I am one tired gal.
Oh, don’t get me wrong. My hand easily slipped into the routine that used to involve inserting carats and commas…old habits from Typing I and Typing II (anyone remember taking these classes in school??).
But oy! My mind went numb after the second paper.
My students are bright, to be sure, but I am one tough critic.
I am, after all, Blogger Extraordinaire.
Or, according to Rooster, the Grammar Nazi.
I was kind in my editing, though.
I refrained from using a red pen.
Red signifies blood, gore, and death.
Remember that my room is green…to signify life, growth, and joy.
I really wanted to use a green pen.
But I didn’t have one.
So, I used a pencil instead.
I wrote to my little heart’s content, covering as much as the margins and double-spaced lines as possible.
Rooster saw one of the papers and nearly fell over in shock.
I’m sure he’s relieved that his writing isn’t falling under the scrutiny of my observant eyes.
I think I’ll invent a new ad campaign.
This is your brain while getting to stay home and occasionally substitute in someone else’s classroom where papers are already graded and all you have to do is show a movie four times…

This is your brain post-marking-up-rough-drafts-during-your-first-month-of-teaching…

It’s not very pretty, is it? Thank goodness Friday is around the corner!
