Yesterday, I was finally able to pull this out of its box…

What is it?
Well, it’s the name plate that my sister gave me after I graduated from college.
It’s taken me months to feel like I had the right to display it.
Never once during the two years of subbing did I ever take it out of the box…not even during the month-long subbing assignments I was fortunate to obtain. I never felt it was my place because those classrooms belonged to other people.
However, things changed on Wednesday.
That was the day I had an interview that resulted in me being offered a job…
On the spot!
Please join me in doing the Happy Dance…

Let me share with you how all of this came about because it is quite clear to me that God orchestrated this event.
The Mr. works with a guy who was diagnosed with cancer a couple of months ago. This gentleman’s wife happens to be our dental hygienist. Remember, I live in Podunk, USA, where everyone seems to be connected to everyone.
A couple of weeks ago, we were attending a luncheon fundraiser for the family. The wife, “H”, and I began chatting. During our conversation, I mentioned my search for a job. She asked if I would be interested in working at such-and-such school.
This is a small, private school that I do not know much about, but I told her I was willing to consider it.
She offered to pass my name along to the dentist’s wife, who is very involved with the school.
I thanked her but also asked her to take care of her husband. That is her main priority right now…not helping me find a job.
However, a couple of weeks later, my phone rang, and it was my friend. She told me she’d just had a conversation with the dentist’s wife, and she wanted me to send her my resume.
Oh you guys…I had that resume, cover letter, and my teaching certification emailed to her before she could get home from the office.
Needles to say, I am a woman of action.
Less than an hour later, my phone rang again.
It was the dentist’s wife, and she was excited about my resume and eager to set up an interview. Could I go in the next day, she wanted to know.
Ha! My schedule pretty much consists of sleeping late, showering late, and job hunting.
Of course I was available!
So, I met with the principal and the dentist’s wife the next day (Wednesday). I had printed off my resume, along with a list of references.
And then I sat.
It was a little unnerving watching the principal read over my resume. I’ve never had someone do that in front of me before.
In the back of my mind, I was wondering if I’d used the proper punctuation!
And then we began the interview.
I could sense that things were going well.
I had a list of questions…all prepared, you know.
Near the end of the interview, I was asked to get my fingerprints taken for a background check.
No problem.
But still, I had no idea if I was getting the job.
And then the topic of salary came up.
That’s when I started thinking I might be getting the job.
And then I heard it…the words I’d longed to hear for two years…
“Consider yourself hired. You do not need to look for another job.”
What can I say?
It felt surreal.
I’ve never been offered a job on the spot before.
I signed my contract yesterday.
It is done.
I am so excited!
Although money will still be very tight as private schools do not pay like the public school system, the opportunity to finally have classes of my own is, well, what can I say but…
Oh my gosh!
Plus, teachers do not get into the business with the goal of joining the Future Millionaires of America Club.
We do it because we see the potential that lies inside of every student.
The dry spell is over.
God saw me through it, just as He will see me through this new phase of my life.
